AS I’ve said time and time again, there is nothing like fresh, crisp sea air to whet the appetite, not that our appetites usually need much whetting.
But with the seaside in mind, Mrs Eats and I decided to point the Eatsmobile north to Eyemouth, for some autumnal fayre.
A friend who caravans at Eyemouth had recommended the golf club for its panoramic views and lunchtime scran, adding that it is not only open but very welcoming to non-members.
But he did warn us to check the weather forecast before setting off.
The golf club sits atop a cliff looking over the sea to two sides and Eyemouth’s attractive harbour filled with trawlers and pleasure craft to the third.
Splendid views on a clear day. Unsurpassable even.
But we were warned that when the mist rolls in from the sea the experience in the golf club is akin to dining in the middle of one of London’s notorious “pea soupers”.
Fortunately when we set off there were no problems with visibility – and the views alone are indeed worth going for. The golf club has large bay windows on three sides which do indeed show off the Berwickshire coast at its best, with St Abbs Head clearly visible in the distance.
