Being a traditionalist I chose the roast beef, and must admit I have tasted better. It was rather stringy, covered in gravy, and the vegetables were piled on to the plate with it.
Another minus was that the mustard and horseradish sauce came in those fiddly paper sachets.
Mrs Eats, however, said her smoked salmon was splendid, and I do believe that anybody choosing a fish dish at the golf club would not be disappointed.
The pudding menu was fairly extensive, but mainly lightweight.
In other words, no “comfort food” such as fudge cake or jam roly poly, which Mrs Eats would argue was no bad thing considering my expanding waistline.
But at £3.50 per dessert the choices of strawberry roulade, pear crumble or lemon gateaux, all accompanied by either cream or ice cream, seemed very reasonable.
In fact, the whole menu was priced reasonably, with the starters of tomato soup (£2.25) and rollmop herring (£3.25) certainly value for money.
The main courses tended to be around the £7 or £8 mark which is also reasonable, but I would recommend a fish dish rather than a traditional roast.
Drinks are served separately at the bar adjoining the restaurant, and as well as an assortment of beers, lagers and soft drinks chilled bottles of wine – either miniature or large – are also available.
Eyemouth Golf Club does not open for meals during the evenings, but it is open during afternoons from noon to six.
And, judging by the number of diners sat at tables gazing out to sea, it is a deservedly popular venue.
