EVERY time Mrs Eats mentions she’s watching her weight I know I’m in for a hard time.
She Who Must Be Fed’s idea of a diet is eating sensibly all week so that come Sunday she can set herself up for a right good feed.
Obviously this spells trouble for my wallet as a full three-course Sunday lunch is almost certainly on the cards.
So it was this week, as Mrs Eats casually suggested we rev up the Eatsmobile and head off in search of some tasty scran.
A short drive later and we found ourselves at The Green in Wardley, Gateshead.
Part of the Sir John Fitzgerald chain, the pub pitches itself as a good old-fashioned pub serving top-notch grub. Inside there are two bar areas, with a pleasant patio outside and a light and spacious dining room.
When we arrived there were no staff around to show us to a table, but no one seemed to mind that we just sat ourselves down, picked up a menu and got down to the serious business of choosing our scran.
I got up to place our order at the bar, leaving Mrs Eats to enjoy the view from the window and the family atmosphere of the dining room.
No sooner had I sat back down and taken a sip of my pint than our starters arrived.
