Oct 25 2009 Sunday Sun
We decided against having a starter as I just wanted to get tucked into my main as soon as possible.
Thankfully, it didn’t take long for the roast dinners to arrive – much to the relief of my rumbling tummy.
The beef was served with a plentiful helping of duck fat roast potatoes, a large Yorkshire pudding and roasted vegetables. There was also a generous helping of gravy. The meat itself was medium rare and couldn’t be faulted – and neither could the Yorkshires, which were deliciously crunchy.
The roast potatoes were particularly tasty, so much so that Mrs Eats pinched half of mine, much to my disgruntlement.
I was glad that the servings of both beef and vegetables were plentiful, as we were both ravenous.
Mrs Eats opted for a glass of wine with lunch but I was off the hard stuff and stuck to soft drinks.
Both of us polished off our plates in no time and my thoughts quickly turned to dessert.
There was a choice of bread and butter pudding or dark chocolate torta.
Never one to turn down the opportunity of comfort food, I opted for the pudding while the She Who Must Be Fed – an ardent chocolate fan – chose the torta.
Again, it was service with a smile from the waiter and the desserts were served promptly.
The bread and butter pudding was superb and ideal for soaking up the previous night’s indulgences.
Over the other side of the table, Mrs Eats was silent for a good five minutes while she tucked into her torta, a rare occurrence, I can tell you.
When she did finally come up for air, she said it was one of the most delicious chocolate desserts she had eaten in months, which is no mean feat where her tastebuds are concerned.
Neither of us had any complaints about the food and were pleased the service had been so friendly and quick.
We left Firenze, bellies full and happy.
