North among top 10 dream locations

A VILLAGE in County Durham has been named as one of the 10 most idyllic places to live.

The Property List has placed Cotherstone among the most peaceful locations to buy a house.

The honour comes from lifestyle and property expert Melissa Porter and home-renovation specialist Ian Blandford, who jointly present the programme.

A spokesman for five said: “This week’s Property List sees Melissa and Ian travel the length and breadth of the country in search of the most idyllic spots.

“They reveal Britain’s 10 most desirable villages, including the likes of Cotherstone in County Durham, Chalfont St Giles in Buckinghamshire, and Bourton-on-the-Water in the Cotswolds.

“In selecting the finalists, criteria such as crime rates, schools, climate and transport links have all been taken into consideration.

“And it is not only those with a spare million or two in their back pockets who can hope to secure this lifestyle.

“Melissa and Ian hunt down a countryside cottage for every budget.”

Each instalment of the Property List presents a countdown of the best places to either buy or build a home.

A different theme is covered in each programme. Other subjects include coastal properties and the best city locations.
