A SPECIAL series of the arts programme Imagine looks at the history of the guitar.
Alan Yentob, also presenter of the regular show, investigates why the guitar has become the world’s favourite instrument.
The three-part series is packed with interviews with some of the foremost musicians who have made the guitar their trademark.
They include, in the second programme, a chat with Newcastle’s Hank Marvin.
This first show, however, looks at the pre-electric era, and suggests the instrument has always had a bad reputation with the musical establishment . . . but has captured the imagination of rebels.
