TWO stars of Robin Hood switch to daytime TV for a series of linked but separate dramas.
The umbrella title of the project is Moving On because of a common theme of reaching a turning point in life.
Joanne Froggatt and Richard Armitage appear in different stories in the series, which runs from tomorrow until Friday.
North-born Joanne – who appears as feisty Kate in Robin Hood – takes the role of a social worker in Friday’s episode.
She shares billing with Lesley Sharp in Butterfly Effect, set in a home for young people during a gun incident.
Whitby-born Joanne agreed to the part after reading the script by new writer Esther Wilson. She said: “I absolutely loved it and immediately thought it was a brilliant script
“I think it’s written in a really realistic way. There’s nothing you feel like you should be saying that’s not there. It’s very cleverly done.”
“I wish there were more things like this and more opportunities for new writers to get their things shown on screen, as it’s nice to do something a little bit different and try something new.”
Meanwhile, her Robin Hood co-star Richard, who plays Guy of Gisborne, was also pleased with the opportunity to do something different.
In Drowning Not Waving, Wednesday’s offering, he plays John Mulligan. He is a man who seems like the perfect solution to his old school flame Ellie’s financial trouble but all is not as it seems. He said: “I enjoyed the simplicity of the storytelling in that this was mainly a four-hander, which relied on the characterisation and the unfolding events to create a gripping story.
“This could be happening on street near you, at this very moment in time.
“It felt real, colloquial, domestic, yet dangerous, as it tumbled towards its climax.
“It wasn’t overly dramatic in its events but the clash of the characters is where the drama was located.
“I found that challenging and new.”
MOVING ON, BBC1, Monday to Friday, 2.15pm.
