RICHARD KIRKMAN has a family break with Haven in Lincolnshire

The slides into the pool were great. Well, to tell the truth I only gave them one go. It involved a lengthy climb to the top of a tower to join a short queue . . . outside. When I was already wet from the indoor section of the pool.

A rain-flecked wind blew straight off the grey sea and whipped around my cowering frame, giving me experience of a new and unique kind of coldness.

So it was swiftly down the slide and straight back into the indoor pool, which felt like a hot bath by comparison. The kids were OK, of course. They are from a different planet, where they develop skins that don’t let in the cold.
