WITH everyone feeling the pinch, families are on the lookout for affordable holidays. Angela Upex and her children tried out a caravan in East Yorkshire
THE first tip for holidays in Britain is to be prepared for every eventuality in terms of weather.
Even in August, you can experience terrifying thunderous downpours, so wellies are just as important as buckets and spades for your break.
And this also explains why my neighbours must have thought I was going for good, judging by how packed the car was as I trundled off to East Yorkshire.
We were off to Park Resorts Caravan Park, which is in Skipsea. Caravans are a British institution but, amazingly, I had never stayed in one.
The journey took just under four hours through majestic Yorkshire, which offers a never-ending change of scenery, from open moorland to fertile valleys and picturesque market towns.
Forget all your preconceived notions about caravans. Today’s caravans have every home comfort.
Our Gold caravan was 12-feet wide, with the added bonus of bedroom and bathroom heating, as well as a gas fire in the lounge, plus a shower room and lots of luxury fixtures and fittings.
The kitchen is fully equipped with microwave and a fridge freezer. All the basics you need for your stay are provided, down to loo roll, teabags and a huge bowl of fruit on arrival.
At Skipsea there is plenty to do both on site and in the surrounding areas.
There are splendid award-winning beaches and some super little coastal towns and villages. Our cabin was just a stone’s throw away from Skipsea beach, so it was a great location.
On site there is a huge indoor swimming pool with fountains. This was great on a bad weather day.
During the day there are regular kids’ clubs where young ones can try their hand at everything from model making to face-painting.You can also enjoy badminton, football, or roller-blading in the sports hall or 10-pin bowling at the bowling alley.
Just next to us was an adventure playground, and there were amusements and games rooms dotted all around the resort.
