Fire crews tackle large scrap yard fire in County Durham

FIRE crews tackled a blaze at a County Durham scrap yard.
Dozens of firefighters were called to the Shepherd Scrap Metals in Hackworth Industrial Park, Shildon, at around 7pm last night after reports of a blaze at the yard.
After two hours they’d managed to get the fire under control and began dampening down the scene.
Crews remained at the scene earlier today running water hoses along the roads as they continued to dampen down the site.
Motorists were being warned by Durham Police to take extra caution when driving in the area.
A joint investigation between police and the fire service is now underway to establish the cause of the blaze.
