26-year-old woman dies in Whickham crash

A 26-year-old woman has died after a crash in Gateshead today.

The incident happened when a car and van collided on Fellside Road, Whickham, at about 3:30am.

The woman was taken to hospital but later died.

A man in his 40s is said to have suffered minor injuries.

Northumbria Police said the road remained closed for officers to investigate and there is no indication of when it will reopen.
