Relief after Gary Glitter lawyer’s failure

SPARE a thought for David Corker, the man with the most difficult job in the world right now.

Mr Corker, below, is Gary Glitter’s solicitor . . . a man whose brief was to literally defend the indefensible.

Putting a gloss on Glitter — real name Paul Gadd — must be like trying to polish a turd, but Corker did his best, insisting the paedophile’s conviction was a “travesty of justice”.

He argued — unsuccessfully — that Glitter should not be forced to sign the sex offenders register. But imagine if he had been successful.

That would have meant Glitter would not have to inform police of his whereabouts and could, once again, travel freely abroad.

In other words, it would have increased the chances of him abusing yet more youngsters.

We should all be thankful that Mr Corker is not better at his job.
