Power firm on my hit list

ENERGY supplier npower is now on “The List”.

You know what I mean, The List. Everyone has one . . . a list of those who are marked for revenge.

Npower were put on The List after cheekily sending me a reminder to pay their bill.

Now, I don’t mind getting reminders when necessary, but it’s bad manners to send one when . . .

1. The bill had already been paid.

2. The reminder was dated two days before the payment deadline.

What’s going on here then? What gives npower the right to chase payment when they’ve already got the dosh before the due date?

To add insult to injury, I’m not even going to get a proper apology.

Their reminder blithely tells me there is no need to contact them if the bill has already been paid.

As if I was going to do nothing in the face of such provocation. So I happily ignored their instruction and asked for an explanation.

Npower said they automatically send reminders on the date a bill is due. They could offer no explanation for why they sent a letter dated before payment was expected.

Nothing like it has happened before, they said. An investigation is underway, they said. But I remain singularly unimpressed.

Stop harassing me, npower. Give me a proper explanation, and then I will stop harassing you.
