No cunning Bruce plan to damage Black Cats

SO is Steve Bruce the new Lawrie Mackemenemy? A Geordie not-so-secret agent dispatched to bring down the old enemy from within?

Sorry, but that explanation – whether offered up by Wearside conspiracy theorists or Magpie mischief-makers – is the most obvious red herring since the spy with the comedy German accent in Blackadder Goes Forth.

Surely far closer to the truth is that Bruce’s rebuilding job is a work in progress being undermined by bad luck and men he wrongly thought would provide him with a solid foundation.

In other words, it’s time certain Sunderland players – particularly given Lee Cattermole’s costly injury jinx – carried their weight.
