LIKE my Sunday Sun colleague Ken Oxley, I must have changed my mind about the wisdom of releasing Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi a dozen times.
But as more and more of the story has emerged, the only thing that seems certain is we've made a complete and total cock up of the whole thing from start to finish.
That's even if you accept that it is not part of some grubby backroom deal involving contracts and oil.
For a start, we've handed the odious Colonel Gaddafi a propaganda triumph. Gordon Brown sent him a letter requesting him not to publicly celebrate if the bomber were released.
What did he think the medal-wearing egomaniac would do? Hold a little private dinner party?
It is impossible to understate the anger on the other side of the Atlantic. Large numbers of Americans will now stop visiting Scotland. Well done.
Above all, this nasty episode brings home the crazy nonsense that is devolution.
