IT’S still not a good time of year to be a fox.
As I understand it, the rich and powerful in their red coats and white breeches are not supposed to hunt with hounds.
Instead, they are obliged to adapt their sport to stay within the law.
But police forces tend to give the hunt ban a low ranking on their list of priorities. Always have, always will.
Foxes can still be shot . . . which defeats the whole point of the exercise.
And if hounds should accidentally come across a fox and instinct takes over during one of the New Year hunts?
Tally ho, chaps! It’s a traditional New Year for some huntsmen after all.
