Fishy name change is pollacks

SUPERMARKET Sainsbury’s seems to have dropped a pollack. Oops, sorry, I mean to say they dropped a colin.

In a triumph of style over substance, the food chain has taken it upon itself to rename the cod-like fish.

Why? Apparently pollack is too coarse a name for its sensitive customers.

It’s rough on the tongue, allegedly, and rhymes with b******s.

Have you ever heard of such a load of nonsense?

Pollack is what it’s called and pollack it will remain, everywhere except the fish counter at Sainsbury’s.

The supermarket does seem to be up itself over the colin issue.

They even got fashion guru Wayne Hemingway to design the packaging for the fish.

The design, apparently, was inspired by real-life artist Jason Pollock.

As I said, style over substance.

But what do you expect from a supermarket which still uses St Jamie of Oliver in its advertising campaigns?

Colin, by the way, is the French word for hake, another member of the cod family, so the word is not even English, does not accurately describe the product, and was chosen for shallow marketing reasons.
