PETERLEE has its big new Christmas tree. Good luck to the town.

But it will take more than one year to recover from the embarrassment of 2008’s twig – nicknamed the worst Christmas Tree in the World – and the accompanying derision.

Peterlee is going to have to live with that one for many years to come.

Christmas comes but once a year – and so will the tale of the town’s Scrooge-like tree.
