Hughton is Premier choice

I’VE been giving some thought to who manages Newcastle United next season.

It would be grossly unfair if Chris Hughton wasn’t given the chance to consolidate his success after the team won promotion back into the Premier League.

Yet, already, there are those who suggest the Toon needs a “big name” in charge.

Are some fans never satisfied?

Hughton has masterminded a record-breaking season full of success and excitement.

He deserves the opportunity to have another crack of the whip.

So it’s a turn-off when I hear on the radio, or in the pub, that he is not up to it.

In my own humble opinion, Newcastle doesn’t need a big name from the past.

That includes the obvious contender. Alan Shearer will always have a place in the hearts of every Newcastle fan but – dare I suggest – it should be as a former player and not a future manager.

Results count and results tell me that it is Hughton, and no one else, who should be in the dug-out when the next campaign kicks off.
