ANIMAL cruelty has no place in a civilised society, but you wouldn't think so judging by two stories last week.
Mary Bale was, quite rightly, vilified for putting a cat into a wheelie bin as she passed by.
She was caught on CCTV and faced the wrath of the nation for her immature actions.
Another story, however, did not get quite the same coverage.
And, to my mind, it was an equally barbaric act.
Holidaymakers in Australia can now swim with hungry crocodiles separated from the creatures by a 12cm-thick perspex box.
Meat is tied to the bottom of the so-called Cage of Death to draw the animals near. Attacks are encouraged by the presence of meat.
Stop and think for a minute: these brain-dead morons antagonise deadly animals in the hope of triggering an attack.
The crocs are only doing what comes naturally.
When something goes wrong, and it undoubtedly will, it will be the animal who gets the blame.
A few years ago I remember some blokes from the North East who paid to go down in a cage surrounded by sharks in Australia.
The sharks were driven mad by blood in the water designed to get them agitated.
Surprise, surprise, the cage was attacked and the Geordies became whingeing poms because they were almost dinner.
My sympathies were with the shark.
Cats, crocodiles, or sharks, it’s all the same – there should be no toleration of animal cruelty.
