Stuff and nonsense

COUNCIL leader Tommy Taylor has got himself in a bit of bother with political rivals who are calling for his head.

Has he been caught with his snout in the trough, taken junkets while on official business, or declared war on a country based on dodgy intelligence?

No, he happened to refer to three female colleagues as “nice bits of stuff”.

But what do the three women at the centre of it all think?

They weren’t offended at all and believe the matter has been blown out of all proportion.

There the matter should end, but probably won’t, with the deputy leader of Wear Valley Council, Charlie Kay, on the warpath.

He seems to think Tommy’s comments make his position as Wear Valley’s equalities and diversities champion untenable.

Why? Is it because Charlie boy is a 21st-century man fighting to uphold equality in the council chambers?

Or is it because Taylor is a Liberal Democrat? Answers on a postcard, marked “political opportunism”, to . . .

Even members of Charlie’s own party are telling him to give it a rest, as people are laughing at his stand. They said it.

I can think of worse things to call people than nice bits of stuff.

Eejit, for one.

Speaking of Charlie, if he puts as much effort into his real civic duties, the people of Wear Valley will be laughing . . for the right reasons.
