ROAD safety charities want an outright ban on car phones — even the hands-free variety — claiming they make drivers four times more likely to have an accident.
The call comes after father-of-two Michael Buston was killed when a lorry driver talking on a hands-free kit ploughed into the back of his vehicle in Lincolnshire.
I have nothing but sympathy with Mr Buston’s family, but I remain unconvinced about the need for such a ban. Why would talking on a hands-free kit be any more distracting than talking to a passenger?
While you might get momentarily distracted by answering the call, is that any different to changing the radio station or a CD while on the move?
