WHO wouldn’t be putty in Joanna Lumley’s fair hands?
The actress’s campaign to win Gurkha’s the right to settle in Britain struck a chord with our sense of fair play.
Her cause was just and she knew it, so much so that Gordon Brown had no alternative but to cave in.
But it was more than simply having right on her side that won the day for the Absolutely Fabulous star, pictured left after the announcement.
She championed the Nepalese soldiers with grace and vigour . . . and displayed none of the militant aggression many campaigners resort to.
It was a textbook charm offensive, and a lesson to us all in the subtle art of persuasion.
The Prime Minister is said to be so in awe of the actress’s campaigning skills that she may now be in line for a gong, most likely a damehood.
Maybe he should go further than that and employ her as his PR adviser.
