Big Sam has reason to thank national Press

HE’D rather eat Sammy Lee than admit it, but Sam Allardyce has reason to be thankful to the national Press.

Their shamless mischief- making/informed speculation (delete according to taste) regarding his position at Newcastle has apparently piled undue pressure on Big Sam.

But the reality is that the media onslaught has galvanised the Geordie Nation (© Sir John Hall, 1995ish) into closing ranks around her beleaguered manager.

Just as Allardyce has been under the cosh, some stories have been rooted in reality – the three Newcastle players querying his tactics and Christmas plans, for example.

But those tales were spun sufficiently in London, and accompanied by enough utter nonsense (such as Sam to be sacked after the Arsenal game on Wednesday) to trouble Tyneside tempers.

And so a supposedly mutinous rabble fell squarely into line behind a manager who may still divide local opinion, but not on one key issue . . .

Their issue with southern-based s***-stirrers.
