Facing up to acne misery

Guess what fun we had

DO1 you remember the children’s game Guess Who? With Maria, Russell, Richard and Philip among all those ugly faces.

I bought it for my niece’s fifth birthday last week and she loves it.

Amid the chaos of birthday cake, pass the parcel, musical statues and jealous squabbles, Ellie and I settled down for a game.

She hasn’t quite grasped the fact that if you ask if your opponent’s card is a man or a woman and follow it up with questions about earrings and make-up then you’re asking unnecessary questions and likely to lose the game. Saying that, the names and appearance of the characters have changed since I was a kid, so may be there is a transsexual in that pack of cards.

Playing Guess Who? was my favourite part of the weekend. I’d forgotten how teasing, if not exactly, taxing it can be.

I love a good board game or jigsaw. When I took six weeks off work once due to glandular fever a 1500-piece jigsaw puzzle helped occupy the grinding boredom.

So as we all tighten the purse strings more this year, get your mates round for a good game. It’s much cheaper than a night on the town.

And if there are no children around, then strip poker is always a good shout. Not that I’m speaking from experience or anything . . .
