I’M SURE I’ll be told it’s part of modern culture, but what is this female obsession with tattoos?
When I was a teenager it was all about ear piercings. Getting your ears pierced twice in one lobe was a sign of being very cool. Then later on came the penchant for belly button piercings.
And today it’s all about the tattoos. Those permanent markings once associated with working-class masculinity are now associated with, well, lots of modern- day women. Actually, it’s not so much the tattoo but the location of it.
My friend Lisa has one. It’s a daisy. Pretty, dainty and positioned perfectly at the base of her spine.
It’s very cute and I was a quarter tempted to get one especially when I witnessed my brother recoil in horror.
He thought a tattoo on his little sister would look tacky. I didn’t and wanted to prove him wrong. But two years on, I’m still tattoo-free and I’m starting to think I’m in the minority. Cheryl Cole (her “Mrs C” tattoo might already be in the process of being removed), Victoria Beckham, Fearne Cotton and Eva Longoria Parker, to name just a few, all sport them.
