Tat’s so passe

Hell, even Samantha Cameron has got a dolphin tattoo (what is the “porpoise” of that?) on her ankle which actually might help husband David win a few votes.

It would be easy to pass off tattoos as a fashion accessory but we’re always told they are so much more – a sign of one’s supposed deep devotion to their loved one, one’s life beliefs and even one’s love of horses.

Leona Lewis is another celebrity to join the tattoo stable. She’s already got one on her wrist, but the latest down her back pays tribute to all things equine.

The thing is I’m unclear as to why so many women want them done on parts of the body which are hard to conceal unless you’re dressed as a mummy.

Is it attention-seeking? A desire to have control over your body or a need to feel part of the modern culture clan?

And let’s face it, if there’s a woman strolling round Newcastle’s Bigg market with a tattoo on her arm of “I love Bradley”, we all know it’s not going to last.

Women with tattoos used to make a bold, brash statement but not any longer. Today they’re just following the flock. It’s simple. If you’re a woman and want to make a statement, then don’t get one.
