Happy days are back

SPRING has officially sprung and I suspect most of us are rejoicing.

It’s feeling milder, the sun has more strength and the birds are in tune.

The coldest winter for 30 years will soon be a distant memory as our thoughts turn to those longer, sunnier days when we can dine al fresco.

I admit the weather this weekend is a little disappointing, but give spring a chance.

The clocks go forward next weekend, which is officially the start of British Summer Time and April is just around the corner.

But if you’re still having trouble feeling optimistic about the start of spring, then here are a few ideas.

You might not be able to relate to all of them but I hope a couple make you smile.

:: Spring means . . . time for a good old dust and clear out. We feel so much better for it.

:: We’re closer to the start of much-needed Bank Holidays – two at Easter and two in May.

:: Excitement is in the air for Newcastle United fans as the prospect of promotion creeps ever closer. Middlesbrough fans might need to wait until next year.

:: Cooing over the abundance of lambs springing to life – and trying to rescue them when they get out of the farmer’s field and can’t get back in. That’s what I did last week, by the way.

:: Switching off the alarm clock and waking up naturally, now those dark winter mornings have passed.

:: Gazing at pictures of frogs, daffodils and crocuses. It’s that time of year when viewers send them to me in abundance.

:: Booking that summer holiday. Or, if it’s already booked, then counting down the weeks, days and hours.

:: Dog owners, like me, can do the early morning walk without dressing for the ski slopes.

:: No more ferreting around for lost gloves and thick winter socks.

:: It’s the start of the golf season and the chance to laugh at Big Al’s golf swing. Actually, he’s very good but he needs to work on his putting.

And if a smile still hasn’t crept across your face then console yourself with this thought . . . cheaper gas and electricity bills.

Well, for the next few months at least.
