I MUCH prefer eating them to tossing them. And I’m much better at eating them rather than tossing them.
I discovered this last week at a pancake race in Stockton-On-Tees town centre – ITV Tyne Tees running against the likes of TFM Radio, the Evening Gazette and, the eventual winners, the George Hardwick Foundation.
My team of three was fellow Kili climber Lucy Philipson and former Olympic runner Allison Curbishley. So you can understand that I felt optimistic about our chances of winning and picking up £500 for charity.
Well, it didn’t work. I was slow because I stopped every time I flipped and Lucy dropped hers. Allison recorded the fastest time along the track. Alas, it wasn’t enough. We had to make do with 5th place so didn’t even reach the semis. Great fun though and we still got a £100 cheque.
Whinge of the week
ONE thing I won’t be giving up for Lent is my morning cappuccino. It’s the kick-start I need to start my working day, well, at least psychologically. It’s why I was so disappointed when I paid nearly £3 for a medium cappuccino and found it was as light as a feather and full of froth.
And it didn’t get much better when the barista scowled at me as I complained and just poured in a bit of extra milk. No apology, no offer to remake it, just nothing. So I won’t be going back.
Oh, the cost of Costa coffee. At least they say they’re freezing prices, unlike nearest rival Starbucks, who recently announced plans to sell bladder-bursting "trenta" cup size – holding almost a litre of coffee – in its US outlets! How much would that cost in Costa?
