AN advert for conservatory supply company Safe Choice has angered a trade association.
The company used the Fensa logo in adverts for their services but the organisation say Safe Choice are not members.
Safe Choice has a showroom in Sunniside, Gateshead.
A recent ad sported the Fensa logo alongside qualifications such as British Standard kite marks. But underneath the logo were the words “Not Required”.
A spokeswoman said: “They were previously registered with us. They are no longer registered with us now. They should not be using the Fensa logo in any form.
“We will contact the company to tell them and we’ll also contact the local trading standards to let them know they are misusing the logo. The advertisement could be read by consumers that they are still registered with us.” She said customers could glance at the logo and think Safe Choice were with Fensa.
Safe Choice’s Dave Guttridge said he no longer needed to register with Fensa, which is concerned with building regulations, because he only supplied conservatories.
He said: “The advert distinctly said Fensa is not required. I don’t do fitting any more.”
He later said he would take the word Fensa out of his ads completely.
A spokesman for Gateshead Council said they would be launching a probe.
He said: “We have received a complaint from Fensa and we are investigating.
“We have also received a complaint from a member of the public.”
