Paving promise on the level

TONY and Alice Jerrard had that sinking feeling after spending £2350 on a new driveway.

The elderly couple, 86 and 78, complained that it was dropping where their son’s car was occasionally parked.

But their complaint turned into a compliment after I spoke to Terry Christie Block Paving Services. Repair work was carried out after I asked for their comments.

The couple’s son, also called Tony, said: “The driveway has had only very occasional use with only a light motor vehicle. a small hatchback, being parked there for a few hours and never overnight.

“In April, Mr Christie admitted there was a sinking problem with the block paving and that work to rectify the problem would take place within two weeks.

“This has not happened and there have been several instances where telephone calls were not returned.”

I spoke to Terry Christie, who said he thought the couple were happy to wait a little longer.

He admitted some blocks had started to sink where the car was parked.

He said: “The lads are on their way now.”

And, sure enough, he was as good as his word.

Tony jnr later told me: “A team of two paviours came this morning and within two hours the work was completed amicably.

“The workmen were accompanied by their foreman, who watched over the repair.

“We are in no doubt that the repair was carried out as a direct result of you speaking with the persons concerned.”
