IT was just the ticket for Thomas and Phyllis Hanley when they asked for my help. The couple feared flight operators Thomsonfly did not take responsibility for a mix-up which could have left them stranded.
But, after my intervention, the company admitted their mistake . . . and threw in bottles of wine to make amends.
Phyllis, 70, of Gilesgate Moor, County Durham, told me how the couple were stopped from boarding their flight home from Palma. She said: “It was upsetting and frightening.
“My husband and I are in our twilight years and this holiday was arranged to celebrate our golden wedding. To suffer the problems we did was not acceptable.”
It turned out the couple had been allocated the wrong boarding cards. Fortunately, they were later given the correct documents and allowed to board.
A spokeswoman for Thomsonfly said: “We would like to apologise to Mr and Mrs Hanley for any upset caused.
“In recognition of their feelings and as a goodwill gesture, Thomsonfly will be sending Mr and Mrs Hanley a gift for any dissatisfaction caused.” Phyllis said she was delighted with the gift of a selection of wines.
