Cash offer increased for Homebase kitchen calamities

HOMEBASE paid the price for a series of cock-ups while building a kitchen.

But what was that price? The company originally offered just £100 to Catherine Jones, but she thought the amount was an insult.

The offer went up to £600 after she asked for my help.

Catherine, 53, of Shotley Bridge, County Durham, said: “Where do I start? I have had so many things go wrong and some more than once.

“The first worktop was scratched, the second was scratched, the third was water damaged, and the fourth was finally all right.”

Catherine, a nurse, also complained about leaks and blockages.

She said: “I was originally offered £100 but it was an insult for what had gone wrong.”

I asked Homebase to explain themselves

A spokeswoman said: “Homebase always strives to provide the best service possible to its customers and we are therefore disappointed to hear of Ms Jones’s problems with her kitchen. One of our customer service team has now contacted Ms Jones to apologise and arrange a gesture of goodwill payment for the inconvenience she has experienced.

“We are a large company and we are aware that, from time to time, things go wrong.

“When this happens, we always try to resolve and improve our systems so that we can provide better service in the future.”

Catherine said she was happy with the offer of £600.
