Couple’s toilet relief

FOR months, Peter Heslop was told the council was going to get around to it.

So he waited, and waited, and waited, without success . . . and then he waited some more.

All he wanted was essential adaptations to his house to cater for his disabled wife Elizabeth.

But he waited so long that Sedgefield Borough Council was no longer in existence.

Officials had promised to consider his request, backed by medical opinion, way back in August last year.

He asked for my help when time passed without any work being carried out.

The couple needed a special toilet because Elizabeth, 69, is very poorly.

I’ll let Peter, 68, explain their situation and why help was urgently needed.

He said: “I suffer from severe back problems, a heart condition, diabetes, and I am my wife’s 24-7 carer. She has arthritis, had one hip operation and is waiting for the other to be done, and cannot walk more than five yards without assistance. Also, she has had three strokes and has lost the use of one arm.”
