Success over bust telly row

TELLY fan Mick Dormand was very interested in one of my previous successes.

I had won a replacement for a reader whose TV stopped working just out of warranty.

And Mick, of Seaham, County Durham, had exactly the same problem.

He said: “I read with interest about what you did for your reader. My TV packed in five months after the warranty ran out.

“The retailer Argos wouldn’t do anything and the makers Hitachi would not do anything. A local engineer said it would cost £215 plus VAT to fix.

“I hope you can help. I’m not after a new telly. A repair would be fine.” I passed the complaint to Hitachi where a spokesman confirmed the set was out of warranty.

But we managed to reach a good old-fashioned compromise to keep everyone with smiles on their faces.

A spokesman said: “We are happy as a goodwill gesture to pay for parts if Mr Dormand is willing to pay for labour.”

Mick said he would accept the offer.
