Halifax says sorry and settles two claims

“We are strongly committed to a high level of customer service at all times and are sorry there was a cause for complaint. It was not our intention to cause any undue stress at a difficult time.”

The spokesman confirmed both claims had been settled.

New information from Linda’s former employer had cleared up any misunderstanding over the unemployment claim, which will be paid. The company now accepts Linda left because of her health.

And, in a separate development, new information provided by Linda’s GP paved the way for success on the sickness claim.

Linda will be paid for three months pending a decision on a more permanent basis.

Halifax also confirmed a change in policy covering similar claims.

In the past, claimants had to be diagnosed by a consultant, not a GP. That is no longer the case for the first three months.

Linda received £1070 for unemployment and £515 for sickness.
