Move to first house threatened over card debt

A COUPLE lost their mortgage after they were branded debtors to the tune of £4.

Emma Simpson and her partner Joseph Forster had applied for a loan from the Halifax.

But it was turned down because of a reference on Emma’s credit report claiming they owed money on a store card.

The decision, compounded by errors on Halifax’s part, meant they were in danger of losing the house they had set their hearts on.

That’s when the couple came to me.

And the deal was back on after the bank that likes to give a little extra help did just that!

Emma and Joseph, currently living with her parents, are now looking forward to their first home together.

At the time of asking for help Emma said: “We are currently pulling our hair out worrying over a mortgage application.

“We are first time buyers and applied for a mortgage to buy a small terraced property for £86,000.

“We received our mortgage offer and confirmation from Halifax in April 2009 but things went dead after that.

“I called Halifax to check everything was okay – we were due to move in a week according to the solicitor - and it was not OK at all. Halifax informed me that our mortgage application had been stopped and in fact failed.”
