Derwentside Homes tenant upset by repairs

A DISABLED tenant has complained about renovation work carried out at her rented house.

Ann Anderson, who has mobility problems, had to stay in the property while major repairs were carried out by contractors for Derwentside Homes.

She had expected to be moved into alternative accommodation for the duration.

And she said her visiting daughter injured an ankle after falling through the floor while work was going on.

Ann’s case has echoes of another complaint about Derwentside Homes and their contractors Frank Haslam Milan.

Earlier this year I revealed how a family with health problems had to stay in their home while similar repairs were carried out.

The companies blamed a misunderstanding, having assumed the family were staying with relatives.

In the latest case Ann, of Leadgate, Consett, County Durham, told me she developed an eye infection thought to be because of the dust.

She said: “I was not offered temporary accommodation and I’m really angry about that. I had to stay in the house while the work was going on around me.

“Sections of the floor were replaced and my daughter stood on a section, it snapped, she went through the floor, and injured her ankle.

“It was repaired but later my walking stick went through the floor causing me more distress.”
