Taking crash course in garage repairs

“I told them I wanted the car replaced like-for-like but they don’t agree. I even had a hard time getting a loan car off them because they wanted to give me a little Nissan. It’s totally inadequate as it is under-powered and has no boot for my tools.”

I spoke to Matt Potts, manager at the dealership, who admitted the car had been damaged. He said: “We have completely fulfilled all our legal obligations and are working closely with the customer to resolve the issue. We are going to repair his car. We have damaged the gentleman’s car, which is awful and regrettable, but accidents do by definition happen.

“He was offered a courtesy car but rejected it because it was not big enough to do his job so we taxed a brand-new suitable car out of goodwill. Once the repairs are done we will speak to him with regards to the value of the car before and after the accident. We passionately believe we have acted in the best possible way.”

Gary, 40, of South Shields, South Tyneside, said: “We are talking about compensation.”
