CURRYS told Soni Singh to get on his bike when he claimed on an insurance policy to replace a damaged camera.
Which was funny, really, because he was on his bike when the accident happened.
Keen mountain biker Soni damaged the camera when he took a tumble in the Cheviot hills, and claimed for a replacement under Currys’ Whatever Happens warranty.
But the claim was rejected because the damage was “unexplained” – and that’s when Soni asked for my help.
He said: “I bought the camera a year ago and took out three years accident and breakdown cover.
“If it was accidentally damaged I was assured it would be repaired or replaced free of charge.
“While riding in the Cheviots I had a bad fall, and the camera, which was in my pocket, was damaged.
“I took the camera back to Currys for repair but I was not asked how the damage happened.
“Three weeks later I got a letter from their repair agents saying the camera was returned unrepaired because the damage was unexplained.
“It was like getting a slap in the face – I paid extra to get the camera insured and now everyone has washed their hands of the problem.”
The loss of the £135 camera meant Soni was unable to take pictures of his baby daughter or a family wedding in India.
I passed the complaint to Currys and, quick as a flash, it turned out picture perfect.
Soni said: “I am pleased to say I had a call from customer services and they confirmed Mr Justice had been in touch.
“They said the camera was not repairable so they have issued a coupon so I can replace it with one of the same quality.
“A big thank you for investigating my complaint and beating the big companies.”
No one from Currys was available for comment.
