New sofa going soft? Get stuffed!

ONE of my readers felt she had been told to get stuffed and pay for the privilege when she complained about the filling on her DFS settees – and I’m not putting up with that!

Margaret Oakley bought the furniture from the company’s branch at Gateshead but was disappointed when they became less firm.

DFS said a reluctant Margaret would have to pick up the bill for any remedial work. She said: “The manager offered to contact the manufacturer to replace the fibre filling but I would have to pay the bill.

“I bought the sofas four months ago and after such a short time I don’t think this is satisfactory.”

I asked Ian Dixon, area manager, if he could do something for Margaret and he came up trumps.

He said: “We don’t think there is anything wrong with the furniture but the customer does want a firmer padding. We have decided to do this free of charge.”

Margaret, of Brunswick Village, Newcastle, later told me DFS had been in touch to make arrangements for the work to be done.
