A MESSAGE for Alan Darnell by way of the famous comedy double act Morecambe and Wise.
Bring me sunshine in your smile, bring me laughter all the while ... but a little bit of work on Roslyn Murphy’s drive would do just as well.
Roslyn told me how Alan, of driveway company Stonecrete, had promised to carry out repairs but was waiting for a good day.
Plenty of sunshine, he might have hoped for, no rain, not even any dampness in the air, and the job would be done.
The promise was made a year ago – and there have been plenty of sunny days since then – but no one has done the work.
Stonecrete had told Roslyn in a letter: “Your driveway has bloomed and requires a re-seal which we are more than happy to do.This work can only be carried out in good weather and when the temperatures rise to a level above 12 degrees.
“We propose to do your re-seal in April/May 2011.”
April came and went, so did May, and we’re now into October.
Roslyn, of Shiremoor, North Tyneside, said: “They have had more than enough chances to put this matter right.”
I asked Alan what was going on and he said Stonecrete was no longer in business but he had been doing some follow-up work for customers.
He said: “I think I have done everyone except for Mrs Murphy.
“A date was arranged but I explained to her that, if it was raining or damp, I could not do the job.
“I had to let it lie because the bad weather kicked in.
“Yes, I know I have had all summer to do it, but I am not prepared to do it until I know all the conditions are right.”
In this world where we live, Alan, there should be more happiness.
So, next time there’s a good day, don’t bring me fun, don’t keep me singing happy songs, just go to Roslyn’s drive and put it right.
