LAST week’s message for Alan Darnell by way of the famous comedy double act Morecambe and Wise has worked.
I asked Alan to bring me sunshine in his smile, bring me laughter all the while, but a little bit of work on Roslyn Murphy’s drive would do just as well.
I revealed how Alan, of driveway company Stonecrete, had promised to carry our repairs but was waiting for a good day without rain or dampness.
The promise had been made a year ago and Roslyn was still waiting for Alan to turn up.
So I did a little bit of prompting and can report that Alan has turned up and carried out the necessary repairs.
Roslyn, of Shiremoor, North Tyneside, said: “Mr Darnell did come and the job is now complete. The saga is now at an end and I am very grateful for what Mr Justice has done.”
Alan, of driveway company Stonecrete, said the company was no longer trading but he was working his way through remedial work for customers.
He said, however, he had been waiting for a day when the weather would allow the drive to dry out.
He had told me: “I think I have done every one except for Mrs Murphy.
“A date was arranged but I explained to her that, if it was raining or damp, I could not do the job.
“I had to let it lie because the bad weather kicked in.
“Yes, I know I have had all summer to do it, but I am not prepared to do it until I know all the conditions are right.”
