PayPal points to procedure over stolen goods

PAYPAL has proved itself no friend of John Appleby when he bought a phone that proved to be stolen.

I revealed last week how John, 32, of Wallsend, North Tyneside, complained when the mobile bought on eBay failed to register on his network after a month.

John had tried to resolve it with the seller and it was only later when he realised what he happened.

EBay and its online banking arm PayPal refused to help. PayPal’s comment arrived after publication but here it is for sake of being fair.

A spokesman said: “PayPal asks buyers to open a dispute within 45 days of the date they make any payment as part of its Buyer Protection guidelines.

“Unfortunately, Mr Appleby’s dispute was launched beyond this protection period and after he had already returned the disputed item to the seller. PayPal advises its customers to consult with them in the first instance before returning disputed items, to ensure that advice can be given and a resolution achieved.”
