THE Sunday Sun has launched a brand new campaign called "Active" to help North people get fit for life.

We have a £25,000 pot of cash to hand out to the region’s sports clubs . . . and everybody from the Borders, Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, County Durham, Teesside and down to North Yorkshire can take part.

Not a week goes by without a worrying new study about obesity and the health dangers it poses. Recent research suggests that, by 2050, up to 70 per cent of North men and 65pc of women aged 20 to 60 are likely to be obese.

We have decided to help our readers to help themselves get something done about it, and we want our sports and recreation clubs to be at the heart of our campaign.

Whether you’re a youth team needing new kit, or an older people’s club looking to introduce new fitness activities, this could boost your funds. Simply register with Active to be guaranteed a share of the cash.

The size of each group’s share will depend on the support they receive from friends, family and readers in the form of tokens they collect from the Sunday Sun.

From June 15, we’ll be printing tokens and will continue to do so for 20 weeks, so get everybody involved to collect as many as you can.

Once we have printed the final set of tokens on Sunday, October 12, you will need to collect in all your token collection booklets, whether full or partially complete, and count your final number of tokens. Complete the enclosed final entry form, indicating the total number of tokens you have received.

The booklets and entry form must be returned to use by Monday, October 20. We suggest you nomintate someone to drop off your entry at our head office on the Groat Market in Newcastle City Centre or have them send recorded delivery, to prevent them going astray.

A team of adjudicators from the Sunday sun will then check all the entries to ensure the number of tokens submitted matches the number on the entry form. Groups will be awarded their share of the Active fund accordingly.

The higher percentage of tokens, the higher percentage of the funds you receive.
