THESE young soccer hopefuls from County Durham have one particular goal in mind this coming season . . . to score enough tokens through Sunday Sun Active to pay for brand new equipment.

Craig Martin, parent coach of Catchgate Community Football Club’s under-13s squad, says the four teams in the club have a lengthy shopping list.

He said: “We desperately need football strips for next season and we have no tracksuits. We could also do with some portable goals for training, and new footballs.”

Craig, who coaches alongside Don Akers, believes Active is a great idea. He said: “The whole idea is to get community support for the clubs. This can be a disadvantaged area and kids don’t have a lot to do. This is about developing more of a community spirit as well as it being a good fundraising idea.

“What I’d say to all of the people in our communities of Catchgate and Consett is, get behind the clubs, help us to support the community and give the children the chance not just to gain exercise but to raise their self-esteem.

“Our motto is ‘Football for All’. It’s not about the best kids with the most ability, it’s about giving kids the chance to play. Everyone gets a game.”

Craig is appealing to everyone who wants to support the club to collect the Active vouchers.
