Fury at cops over tragic teenager

Hayley Adamson

NORTH cops have come under fierce attack on websites dedicated to tragic teenager Hayley Adamson.

Hayley, 16, died after being hit by a police car in Newcastle on Monday night.

The local community reacted angrily to the accident, and their feelings have been shared by people who have posted messages denouncing police on internet memorial sites.

As feelings continue to run high, Hayley’s parents called for an end to rumours about their daughter’s death and urged people to wait for the result of the investigation. In a statement released via the Independent Police Complaints Commission — IPCC — they said: “We’ve got so many questions that we want answers to.

“Everyone who knew Hayley is understandably upset and they want answers too.

“But we know there is an ongoing investigation and we would like people to wait for the outcome of that and not spread rumours.”

Local people had claimed the car was travelling without headlights or warning sirens turned on, but the IPCC have stated that the car’s headlights were turned on.

A statement from the Commission said: “It has not yet been possible to say categorically whether the police vehicle’s emergency warning equipment was activated.

“Further tests will be carried out. Similarly, further tests are being conducted to ascertain the speed at which the police car was travelling.”
