Crooked banker’s awaiting sentence

A FORMER bank manager and financial advisor is facing jail for stealing £100,000 from a business.

David Hedges, 50 — a former business manager for Barclays Bank — began feathering his own nest after he became a partner in a nursing recruitment firm.

Hedges, of Sherburn, Durham, has admitted 21 counts involving theft, cheque forgery and deception at Teesside Crown Court.

As he awaits sentencing this month, the extent of his crime can be revealed.

He was warned by Judge Tony Briggs that he could face jail.

And his former partner in the £1.4m business said she wants justice in the courts.

Anne Fawcett, 43, was forced to declare herself bankrupt and lost her home, savings and business.

Mrs Fawcett, a mother-of-three, said: “He deserves everything the court throws at him.

“He should be jailed for the anguish he caused me and my family. I trusted him and he betrayed that trust.”

Hedges admitted charges including the dishonest use of bank cheques in Mrs Fawcett’s name.
