Police appeal after stabbing attack

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed in the neck, face and body in a street attack.

The victim was attacked outside a pub in Wigton, Cumbria, at around 10.45pm on Friday. He was taken to The Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle.

The 22-year-old victim — who has not been named by police — suffered multiple injuries, but his condition is not thought to be life threatening.

Inspector Michael Hagan said: “This was a horrific attack and we have set up resources to deal with this incident that reflect this.

“We have put a team together that includes a senior investigating officer.”

He added: “Although knife crime does remain low in the county, we are not complacent and take this issue very seriously.

“We will do our utmost to apprehend whoever did this and are looking for anyone who has information that might lead us to the culprit to come forward.”

Two other teenagers died yesterday in separate stabbing incidents.

Connor Black, 16, of Manchester, suffered a one-inch stab wound to his upper left shoulder after attending a party in the city.

The joinery student was found on grass just a few feet from the main road. He died on the way to hospital.

And a man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 17-year-old stabbed during a street fight in south London which happened at around 1.30am yesterday.

The unnamed teenager suffered severe neck injuries and died three hours later.
