Buskers flock in to city

SHOPPERS were treated to a spectacle of street entertainment yesterday.

Performers from Portugal, The Virgin Islands, Australia and America provided entertainment to people in Durham City centre.

The wacky performers all came together as part of an event called Streets of Play: Durham International Buskers’ Festival. The event is in its second year and was organised by Kate James of Durham City Vision.

She said: “Durham is incredibly fortunate to have performers of this quality in the city. The atmosphere was terrific and it was really fun for all the family.”

Among the performers was a man called The Balloonatic, whose act involved him twisting a balloon into a dog. Workshops were held for those wanting to take up the art forms.
